Origin of Devi Pendragoden

There are seven brothers and one sister living in a village. Because of only sister of them they married his sister to a person who lived at their house. They live together and cultivated the same field and land. They live like a happy family. After some day brothers are thought that if their brother-in-law lives with them then in future he most be demand to their cultivating land. So they think to sacrifice to earthen deity because she must gives to excess grains. One day they goes to cultivation land with their brother-in-law and cut his head from body for the land deity and buried to him. They came back to home and told their sister that they don’t know about the husband of their sister. Sister goes to forest with many type of weapons, bamboo pot etc. abut can’t find her husband and cry below a tree. At that time he is in monthly period of ladies. After some time a tiger become and eat to sister. Therefore she become a soul or Duma. After that she eat to all who came under that tree. At that time Jhiku, a goat farmer become the food of that Soul. After that who die through the Soul of sister all become deity and sister is known as Penderagoden. Jhitku is Jhitku and husband of sister is Gharjia Duma. All other deity are- Kotgoden, Dolimeli, Saoren, kalaren, Lakren, etc.

Human Sacrifice Tradition in Kalahandi, Odisha

'DASHRA' Yatra of Maa Dandpaten...of Mahima village of Koksara, Kalahandi

Maa Dandpaten is the deity of village Mahima. Who is very famous for his truthfulness and blessing to all all of these area. According to Local history this area was known as Dandapat Forest before many years,  and this deity is the owner of this forest area. as the owner of Dandapat she is known as Dandapaten. they are seven sisters of her parents and Maa Dandpaten is younger one.

Other seven sisters are established other seven village of this area. Younger Sister is very active and very caring to her devotees. We came to know that where is Devis temple is situated there is a two classical drum which is made from human flesh. and many before year here was a custom to sacrifice to human. It is very interesting that people or prist no needs to seach a human for sacrifice. Devi magically collect a boy for herself inside the temple and awaited to prist. That is a belive or real nobody knows but many of senior citizens of this village told that before 30 years from today once they faced to this setuation. And three to four persons only can see to that, generally public are not allowed to watch that secret sacrifices.

   Anather interesting thing of this temple is that wife of prist called PUJAREN cleaned and swipe to temple in the early mornings. At that time she most be without clothes means completely nude. This tradition now become erase this modern time.

Every year DASRA a tribal festival which is celebrate in BIJAYA Dashmi as Hindu calendar. In this fesival villagers are worship the Deity and sacrifice many type of animals like- goat, pigeon, chickens etc. People of nearest area likes Bhusraguda, Malpada, Ghantiguda, Temra and others. in this festival public are allowed to inside the temple.     

In every 12 year villagers offers to deity a PODHA ( buffalo ) for which out strict of the village name called KACHAR PADIA celebrate a  festivals. in this festival all sisters and relative deity are invited. in 2017 was the last festival of Padha puja.
